Richmond Heavies
The Richmond Heavies were formed in the 1971 – 72 season and have remained an integral part of Richmond Rugby Club ever since with a well-earned reputation as a very strong playing side and an even better touring side. As a celebration of their 50th year a specially crafted red wine seemed an appropriate tribute. South Africa was the natural choice for this inaugural blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot expertly grown, made and bottled on Welbedacht Wine Estate by Springbok rugby player Schalk Burger.

Winemaker
Welbedacht Estate is the home of the Schalk Burger Family, both ex Springbok Rugby Internationals. They also have a cricket pitch inside their vineyard called the Welbedacht Oval. Besides their wonderful Estate Wines, Welbedacht is the home of the gregarious Meerkat wines. Schalk is our original sporting winemaker!

I love this charity wine. A great cause and to drink good wine whilst feeling like contributing to something more important! And quite a rich but smooth wine. Will buy more.

Thought it was a Malbec, it’s that bloody nice but it’s a combo!! Cab Sav & Merlot. The fact is it’s hoofing.

Richmond Heavies Foundation raises money for pitchside defribulators amongst other things and I bought this wine to support that endeavour. It is a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend and 2018 is a nice year for South African wine to drink now.
