Tasting Notes: Hailing almost half and half from our two estate sites, McQueen and LeFore, the 2022 Doubleback vintage was one to remember. I have always felt like sometimes you need to flirt with destruction in the pursuit of perfection. A cooler vintage, we finished picking after the first full week in November – the latest in my career but one that I am happy about. Our team crushed it – pun intended. Wet stone, charcoal, eucalyptus – balanced out by gobs of fresh plums, red rope liquorice at a baseball game, and beautiful wafts of vanilla. A constantly changing, complex, and sexy nose. A soft entrance leads to building tannin that is ultra rich, glycerol, and has a super long, lush finish with hints of French oak and fine grains. Decant now and drink through 2049. Food Pairing: Pair with red meats and all types of cheese. Or sample this great wine on its own and just appreciate drinking one of the best quality red wines coming out of the whole of the West Coast.
Barrel/Aging Programme: 22 months in 68% new French oak, 7% Stockinger Casks, 7% Concrete Tulips, 18% used French oak.

Winemaker
For former NFL Quarterback Drew, owning a winery has been a long-time aspiration that would allow him to combine his passion for fine wine and love of the Walla Walla Valley. In 2008, Drew launched Doubleback, an estate-focused winery with the goal of producing ultra-premium cabernet sauvignon from the Walla Walla Valley. To make this dream a reality, Drew collaborated with his childhood friend Chris Figgins of Figgins Family Wine Estates. Chris consulted on all winemaking and vineyard practices while training current winemaker, Josh McDaniels, who assumed the role in 2015. Since its first release, Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon has received numerous accolades most recently 99 points from Robert Parker and 96 points from Decanter. The vision for Doubleback remains to be a premium wine experience completely focused on quality. The somewhat patriotically named Elizabeth Chardonnay is one of our top white wine selections.
The Sporting Connection:
Drew Bledsoe is best known as the starting quarterback and face of the New England Patriots from 1993 to 2001. Drew then went on to play for the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys before retiring from the sport in 2007. For his accomplishments in New England, he was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2011. That “success” is something of an understatement and typical of Drew’s humble nature. A four-time Pro Bowler and Superbowl winner in 2001, he played fourteen seasons in the NFL. The name ‘Doubleback’ derives from Drew’s life journey. In his own words: “Doubleback is purely about a small-town kid that grows up in Walla Walla, goes off and has some success and then doubles back and comes back home”.
