Ponting Wines is the result of a dynamic collaboration between Ricky Ponting, one of Australia’s most celebrated cricketers, and Ben Riggs, an acclaimed Australian winemaker renowned for his commitment to crafting exceptional, high-quality wines. United by their mastery and passion for excellence, their partnership celebrates both their achievements and dedication. Each wine tells a story inspired by Ricky’s life and is meticulously crafted by Ben to deliver outstanding flavor, structure, and complexity.

Sporting Connection
Ricky Ponting is one of the most successful cricketers in history. Making his first-class debut at just 17, he went on to become Australia’s most successful cricket captain, famously leading the team to a 5-0 Ashes series whitewash in 2006/07. Ricky was a key member of three World Cup-winning teams—two of those as captain—and remains Australia’s highest run-scorer in both Test and ODI formats. Globally, he ranks as the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history and third in ODIs.
Since retiring, Ricky has transitioned into coaching, leading the Mumbai Indians to an Indian Premier League championship and currently coaching the Delhi Capitals. He also contributes to the Australian T20 and ODI teams and served as an assistant coach during the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Off the field, Ricky is a respected commentator in Australia and the UK, notably with the Seven Network, covering major events like the Ashes and Big Bash League.
Beyond cricket, Ricky is co-founder of Ponting Wines, a venture that celebrates his lifelong passion and dedication. Together with his wife Rianna, Ricky has raised over $10 million since 2002 to support young Australians and their families battling cancer through the Ponting Foundation, established in 2008. In recognition of his sporting and philanthropic contributions, Ricky was awarded the Order of Australia in 2012.

Ben’s winery in South Australia occupies a distinguished position at the premium end of the market, leveraging his extensive network of relationships with top growers across some of the region’s most celebrated terroirs. Drawing exceptional fruit from the Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, and McLaren Vale, Ben carefully selects vineyards renowned for their unique soils, microclimates, and varietal characteristics.
His winemaking philosophy centers on crafting wines that are unpretentious yet deeply expressive of their origins. Ben aims to capture the true essence of each vineyard, allowing the distinct regional terroir to shine through in every bottle. The resulting wines are rich and complex, boasting bold flavours and depth, yet balanced with finesse, silky texture, and elegant structure—wines that not only showcase South Australia’s diversity but are also genuinely enjoyable to drink.

Being involved with Sporting Wine Club is a perfect match for me, combining two of my greatest passions—cricket and wine.
