The Wine
We were first introduced to Drew Bledsoe’s ‘Doubleback’ by our good friend Jennifer Williams-Bulkeley, based in Boston, Massachusetts. A legendary former quarterback for the New England Patriots, Drew was a beloved figure in the game—ultimately passing the torch to Tom Brady following an injury that changed the course of NFL history.

Sporting Connection
For former NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe, owning a winery was a long-held dream—one that would allow him to combine his deep appreciation for fine wine with his love for the Walla Walla Valley. In 2008, that vision came to life with the launch of Doubleback, an estate-focused winery dedicated to producing ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon from this acclaimed region.
To bring his dream to fruition, Drew partnered with lifelong friend Chris Figgins of Figgins Family Wine Estates. Chris provided expertise across all vineyard and winemaking practices and mentored Josh McDaniels, who took over as head winemaker in 2015.
Since its debut, Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon has garnered widespread acclaim, including an impressive 99 points from Robert Parker and 96 from Decanter. The winery continues to stay true to its founding mission: delivering a world-class wine experience centred entirely on quality.
Among its standout offerings is the beautifully crafted Elizabeth Chardonnay—a firm favourite of ours and one of the finest white wines in our portfolio.

Nestled in the southeastern corner of Washington State, Doubleback is situated in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley—one of the most acclaimed wine regions in the United States. Surrounded by the rolling Blue Mountains and defined by its diverse soils and dramatic diurnal temperature shifts, the valley offers ideal conditions for growing bold, expressive red varietals—particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, the cornerstone of Doubleback’s portfolio. The area’s long growing season, dry climate, and exceptional vineyard sites have earned Walla Walla a reputation as a world-class destination for wine lovers and winemakers alike.
Doubleback’s estate vineyards are carefully planted to take advantage of the region’s natural attributes. With elevations ranging from 850 to 1,200 feet, the sites benefit from excellent drainage, balanced sun exposure, and distinct soil profiles—from wind-blown loess to fractured basalt. These elements contribute to wines with deep concentration, refined tannins, and remarkable aging potential. Committed to sustainable farming and hands-on viticulture, the Doubleback team ensures that each vintage captures the unique character of Walla Walla’s terroir—elegant yet powerful, structured yet approachable. The result is a collection of wines that not only reflect the land they come from, but also elevate the valley’s growing legacy on the global wine stage.

We at Doubleback are very excited that our first venture with the UK market is teaming up with Sporting Wine Club. We love the concept and having recently watched our New England Patriot team at Twickenham, the home of rugby, we can’t wait to build on this sporting relationship.
