SWC & NFL At Wembley Stadium

Sporting Wine Club recently visited Wembley Stadium,  home of football and NFL in the UK to showcase their wines.

What a treat to spend time tasting some NFL wines with Doug Tetley, MD of Delaware North, who manage all the stadium facilities there and at other iconic venues in the UK and beyond.

Drew Bledsoe, New England Patriots quarterback legend, has made a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon from his Doubleback vineyard. It was served last year when the Jacksonville Jaguars were in town, and we are now adding two superlative wines from his farm deep in the Walla Walla Valley, Washington State.

The Patriotically named Elizabeth Chardonnay is the freshest, crispest vintage imaginable and the Flying B Cabernet Sauvignon is a wonderful companion to the world class Doubleback.

What a thrill – The Seattle Seahawks (just around the corner from Doubleback) are playing the Oakland Raiders at Wembley this Sunday, accompanied by Sporting Wine coupled with the name of Drew Bledsoe.

May the best team win and of course more matches to come. Cannot wait!

WINEMAKING NOTES
by Winemaker & GM, Josh McDaniels

“It is truly my pleasure to craft these new wines as a pure expression of the Walla Walla Valley and as representations of the incredible and fun stories from the Bledsoe family.”

2017 Elizabeth ChardonnayDrew’s Grandmother, Elizabeth, lived on the Flying B cattle ranch yet always displayed and demanded elegance and class. The Elizabeth Chardonnay grapes were intentionally picked early in the growing season, the resulting wine opens with bosc pear, tropical fruit and cool wet rocks – almost as if you can smell the concrete “tulips” that the wine was partially aged in.Read More>>

2016 Flying B Cabernet Sauvignon – Paying homage to Drew’s Grandfather’s cattle ranch in Ellensburg, Washington, the 2016 Flying B is only the second release but a huge step up. Immediately seductive aromatically with red raspberry, blueberry, cedar, menthol and tobacco. The addition of Syrah to the mix has given this wine a complex and harmonious character that these blocks were missing.Read More>>

2016 Stolen Horse Syrah (SOLD OUT) – The story behind the wine represents a Bledsoe family tale of “no good deed goes unpunished” in the Gallatin Valley of Montana and is loaded with pretty red and blue fruit, with an intriguing type of minerality to it, a great amalgamation of the Loess vineyard planted in the deep wind-blown loess soils and our new estate vineyard, Lefore, planted in the ever-famous and plentiful cobblestones of the Walla Walla Valley. Our first red wine aged in concrete “tulips” this wine exhibits soft tannins, lively acidity, and a fantastic richness.Read More>>

Doubleback: A Video Update From Drew Bledsoe

With perfect timing we have just received this video from Drew Bledsoe, I say perfect timing as the samples of the Doubleback 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon are winging their way through customs as I type and we are due to start stocking the latest Bledsoe Family Winery Wine – the Flying B Cabernet Sauvignon – once that arrives with us too, hopefully some time in August.

“We were just sampling it [the Flying B] from barrel yesterday and it is fantastic” said Jordan Hostetter, who has the rather enviable job of Director of Operations at Doubleback.

If this video doesn’t want to make you book a flight to Washington I don’t know what will!  Enjoy.
