SWC And London Olympic Stadium

It was a landmark weekend for Sporting Wine Club.

Saracens v Harlequins was the¬†first¬†Premiership Rugby match to be played at the London Olympic¬†Stadium, in front of 57,000 people, with¬†Schalk Burger on the pitch and his family’s wine available off it.¬†¬†Sporting Wine Club was proud to be represented in such an Iconic¬†stadium, and this¬†represents another milestone in our development into Sporting stadia.

The Meerkat Chenin Banc and Bohemian Syrah were in particular demand although it’s always tough to choose between the 4 high quality offerings Рthe Meerkat Pinotage Rose and the Welbedacht Hat Trick went down very well too.

In recognition of the Sarries win which keeps them near the top of the Premiership, these are our rugby wines of the week and will attract a 15% discount for any two case orders or more.  Please contact alex@sportingwineclub.com or michelle@sportingwineclub.com to place your order.

SWC & CSM – Corporate Christmas Wine Tasting

SWC had the great privilege to host a pre Christmas Wine Tasting evening at CSM, one of the top global Sports and Entertainment Agencies.

Holly Millward, a CSM executive, had won the occasion at an RPA rugby charity auction event for which we were all grateful.

We¬†intertwined a blind tasting of some top rugby wines with CSM’s People Awards 2017 which was very entertaining, topped off with a fond farewell message to Holly who is taking on a senior role in Asia soon.

We sent everyone home with a bottle of the unique, original Bellini which was mixed by Guiseppe Cipriani himself at Harry’s Bar in Venice and supplied to SWC by Francesco Cosulich, ex Treviso rugby player, who owns the Collalbrigo Estate.

Other much enjoyed rugby wines were Schalk Burger’s Chenin Blanc, Jacky Lorenzetti’s Moulin D’Issan and Sumaridge Estates Sparkling Wayfarer and Pinot Noir.

We hope to work again with CSM during 2018 for more sporting wine occasions.

Mike Brown & Jaguar Land Rover Event

Sporting Wine Club came to Thames Ditton recently to conduct a wine tasting with our friends from Jaguar Land Rover.

Other than seeing their new Jaguar release Рtop quality just like our wines! Рwe were privileged to spend the evening with Harlequins and England Fullback, Mike Brown.

We enjoyed a fascinating insight into what makes England tick, and how under Eddie Jones the squad has emerged as Rugby World Cup contenders. With a few stories from the past from our very own Hallers, it was a lovely evening with our 4 rugby winemakers in evidence Рfrom Italy, South Africa (x2) and France.

Francesco Cosulich, Jacky Lorenzetti, Schalk Burger and Simon and Holly Turner would have loved Mike to sample their vintages but he is in full training and was able only to admire from a distance and appreciate the bouquet. Next time!

Many thanks to David Edwards and Richard Varney from JLR who organised the evening.

M Restaurant Twickenham Launch

Sporting Wine Club had the great privilege to help launch M Twickenham which is only a quick sprint to the home of English Rugby.
We have always wondered when it would be possible to enjoy a steak and bottle of good wine in relative comfort but within easy reach of the rugby. The Car Park or a frighteningly expensive corporate event is not for everyone and here we have a wonderful place to enjoy, both pre and post match, just opposite Twickenham railway station.

We had in attendance Gary Rees and David Pears, Rugby Internationals of yesteryear when England won two Grand Slams. Also Simon Shaw, legendary England Second Row forward.
A great evening was washed down with quality Sporting Wines provided by our Rugby winemakers. Schalk Burger, Francesco Cosulich, Simon and Holly Turner, Jacky Lorenzetti and Emmanuel Cruse are all wonderful representatives of our club combining wine, sport and charity.

We are delighted that M Twickenham is stocking some of our wines, and we look forward to a wonderful few rugby months ahead.
