RACKING, Step 3
🇬🇧 Frédéric is using a « chèvre » : it is an old instrument tilting the barrel during the last phase of racking.

Time for us to rack the 2017 vintage ! It consists in separating the clear wine from the sediment that has set down in the barrels during the preceding months. It requires a great know-how and time-honored methods. #ChateauIssan #Margaux #Wine #slowmotion pic.twitter.com/JPLNiOotSB

Apart from their love of sporting charities and support for African Township rugby, Sumaridge Wine Estate owners Simon and Holly have been big donors to Elephant Charities over the years and so branded their wonderful Rosé in the name of Tara, the legendary Asian Elephant.
Our exclusive partnership with the Chinese Cricket Club Restaurant in Blackfriars started last week, as does their firm commitment to our Tara!
It was fitting that I met with Hugh Wilson, ex Surrey fast bowler, Chairman of Lloyds Cricket and SWC member, to sample the first bottle of Tara Rosé to be opened at Chinese Cricket Club. A spring like sunny day was a perfect accompaniment and we look forward to a summer of Sporting Wine with Lloyds Cricket as well as a few runs, wickets and victories along the way.
You may have spotted the Moulin D’Issan (our best selling Bordeaux Blend) in the corner of the picture to celebrate Jacky Lorenzetti’s Racing 92 victory over Clermont in the quarter finals of the European Rugby’s Champions Cup.
The Sporting Wine Club was truly privileged to greet Emmanuel Cruse, the Chief Winemaker for Jacky Lorenzetti’s very special Bordeaux Vintages. The club evening was held at M Victoria who hosted us in their very own mezzanine winetasting room.
Apart from being the owner of Racing 92, who won the French Championship in 2016, Jacky Lorenzetti owns the Chateau’s Lilian Ladouys, Pédésclaux and D’Issan. These are three of the highest quality vineyards in the Haut-Médoc and it is said that wines from Chateau D’Issan were served to Henry of England and his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine in the 14th Century.
Emmanuel took us skillfully through the Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot predominant blends, various vintages of each, and the highest quality truly shone through. The “Indian Summer” of 2014 gave the perfect conditions to create some truly outstanding wines, although the older vintages were remarkable and we all learnt the true reason for decanting wines a few hours ahead of drinking.
Sporting Wine Club look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with these top wineries of Bordeaux where Emmanuel and Jacky create such wonderful vintages. Please do consider the opportunity to go and visit the area where, I can guarantee, you will be made very welcome. Please contact us for more detail.
We were also lucky to have the great Serge Betsen, rugby legend and recently awarded the Légion D’Honneur for services to Rugby and Charity, join us for the evening and there was a lively discussion around recent, and future, rugby matters.
We are already looking forward to our next event!
