SWC’s Charity Target For Doddie Weir – Amazing Wine Offer!

SWC had the huge privilege to supply the wines to the Doddie Weir Testimonial last Monday at Battersea Evolution in London.

I played against Doddie in the early 90’s and over the years we have had a lot of laughs. He is a legend of the game.  For him to be suffering from Motor Neurone Disease is a total tragedy, and for which there is no known cure.  We and everyone else will do everything we can to help Doddie and assist in researching the causes of MND.  I am sure we all remember the sad passing of legendary Springbok Joost Van der Westhuizen last year from the same illness. It is vital that a cure is found.

Together with the help of European Rugby, our table in the corner contributed £25k, which made us incredibly proud.  Schalk Burger also donated a visit to his wine farm for free which was sold for £5k.  Fittingly we started the evening with the superb Mon Rene, Schalk’s Sparkling wine, champagne in all but name, and his very excellent Meerkat wines, the Pinotage and the Sauvignon Blanc, were much enjoyed and were drunk throughout the evening.

To continue to support Doddie, we wish to offer you the opportunity to buy all three wines with a donation to his foundation of £5 per case for the Meerkats and £10 per case for the Mon René, full details are below.  We have a target in our minds to raise another £2,500 through these sales and also to raise awareness of MND among the many hundreds of people to whom we will send this.

To find out more about Doddie’s amazing Trust and their events raising awareness of, and supporting people with, MND please click here.

Thanks for your support.

SWC & Bloomberg Square Mile Relay

We are absolutely delighted to be the official wine supplier to the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay event, taking place on 21 September 2017 in the City of London.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a one-of-a-kind, immersive team building experience, which uniquely takes place in the heart of financial districts around the world. Unlike other corporate events where individuals compete against one-another, this event is all about the TEAM. Train together. Race together. Celebrate together.

This is the only global corporate relay running race of its kind. Ten co-workers in each team take it in turn to run an unconventional and exciting one-mile lap through the heart of London’s financial district – all without dropping the important relay baton!

After taking on business rivals and earning bragging rights for the year, the teams kick back at the after party, enjoy complimentary hospitality and celebrating with a live DJ in the Race Village. This is the ultimate corporate team-bonding event that builds camaraderie, turning individuals into teams.

Teams pay £1,095 each to enter and the money raised goes to the charities listed here.

We are supplying Sumaridge Estate White and Red blends plus a case of Mon Rene for prize giving.  Watch out for the #WeRunThisCity hashtag on twitter for pictures of our products with the winners!

SWC Meets Jacques Kallis

Sporting Wine Club was very privileged to greet one of the world’s greatest cricketers last week. Jacques Kallis is regarded as the world’s best all rounder, and he was invited to England by Holly and Simon at Sumaridge Estates who need no introduction from the SWC!
Whether at China Tangs, Lords Cricket Ground or at the Chinese Cricket Club Restaurant on Blackfriars, members and friends of Sporting Wine Club enjoyed his wonderful company.
Jacques won’t want to choose out of the many exceptional Sumaridge wines, but the sparkling Wayfarer, Epitome Red and the world class Chardonnay brought a special smile to his face.  The Maritimus White Blend went down suitably well as Simon and Holly raised super amounts of money for their Maritime Charity in SA, the NSRI. We were also privileged to help Jacques raise money for his Foundation which helps disadvantaged children in South Africa realise their cricketing dreams.
What a week!  And to celebrate we want you to choose from the above quality Sumaridge specials and enjoy a 15% discount on purchases of two cases or more.  Please contact michelle@sportingwineclub.com to place your orders!

Charity News Update

We have seen a huge increase in our charity work over the last few months and wanted to share some fantastic success stories with you all.

To date this year we have sent more than £50k to a variety of charities, sporting and otherwise, through the kindness of our winemakers and the auction item inventory which we have. We feel really proud of that.

We hope to continue that run rate but need loads of support to do it – we would encourage you to sign up and become a member of the club  as the summer approaches and we have a lot of events to share with you, sport & charity being the central themes of course!

Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation

SWC and Sumaridge Estate Wines recently donated the wines to Alby Shale and the RCSF dinner on 3rd May 2017.

From Alby:

A record £150k was raised for RCSF at the Patrons’ dinner and auction at the Kia Oval this week. The event, which leaves us less than £100k short of or final target, was the largest one to date.

David Gower, Michael Vaughan and Jonathan Agnew took part in an entertaining Q&A, as did former Zimbabwe international Andy Flower, who spoke movingly about the power of cricket as a tool for social change.

Holidays, cricket tickets, sporting memorabilia and money can’t buy experiences raised £140,000 in the silent and main auctions, taking our overall funds raised from the night to in excess of £150,000.

RCSF wants to thank everyone for their support and generosity. As a result of your help we are now within reach of our final fundraising target.

The RCSF dinner also featured in The Daily Telegraph, with an exclusive Nick Hoult interview with RCSF patron and former Prime Minister David Cameron. Click on the link here and please do share it with your friends on social media:

Horizon Prostate Cancer Charity Dinner

Horizon Prostate Cancer held a fundraising dinner on 28th April 2017 and the amazing efforts during the auction on the night raised £200,000, making £350,000  in total for the charity.
Sporting Wine Club contributed with both “Weight in Wine” and “Exclusive Winetasting Event” lots, which raised £3500 – and the Champions Cup Final Tickets which went for £1500.
