SWC Italian Winemaker’s Dinner: Collalbrigo Estate

We were delighted to introduce the fantastic wines of the Collalbrigo Estate to the members of the Sporting Wine Club at a launch event in June. Gathered at a perfect venue, The Shepherd Market Wine House, which nestles just off Curzon Street and has a real Mediterranean feel to it, club members enjoyed exploring some noble Venetian wines presented by charismatic winemaker Francesco Cosulich.

A warm summer’s evening was offset by some wonderful extra dry Prosecco and the uniquely bottled Bellini, from the original recipe as served by Harry’s Bar. This will be an absolute winner, boasting such history and a beautifully designed aqua marine bottle with the authentic insignia. The Prosecco/Peach juice mix is to die for.

An interlude to hear our cricketing legend, Allan Lamb, talk about the state of English cricket was soon followed by some rugby story-telling from ex-England Full Back Jonathon Webb and Chief Disciplinary Officer the Judge Jeff Blackett, amid mouthfuls of buffalo mozzarella, classic Italian salami and chorizo slices.

The Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Grigio on show were both embellished by the Teatro La Fenice label. This is one of Venice’s oldest and most historic theatres and gave these excellent wines a further storyline.

Finally, another dry Prosecco to compliment the wonderful chocolate pudding to round off the evening.

In the wonderful and intimate surroundings of the Shepherd Market Wine House, we welcome Francesco’s authentic and high quality wines to the Sporting Wine Club. We thank him for his support of our associated rugby charities, as well as his enthusiasm to become part of our story.

“Couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday! Great night lads, the Bellini went down very well… thanks!”
Allan Lamb, former England Cricket International
