Vintage: 2019
Vintage Conditions: 2019 saw a wet spring however, this was tempered by warm summer days and cooler nights which was integral to retaining the acidity and clear aromatic character of the grapes.
Vineyard Located near the bottom of New Zealand’s South Island, Central Otago is the world’s most southerly wine region. Vineyards are generally located close to the sides of mountains and high above river gorges in. In this challenging terroir, Pinot Noir has proven itself and makes up most of the wine region.
Winemaking Notes – Continental climate with mica schist, Clay and loam soils common, as is windblown loess. Due to the dry climate in Otago, these dry soils are high in mineral content and low in organic matter, conditions that are highly conducive to premium viticulture.
Vines planted on these soils cannot afford to waste energy on luxurious greenery, and instead focus their resources on producing small, highly concentrated berries. This results in wines with intensity of flavour and a good tannic structure.
