BOTHAM 76 SERIES · MARGARET RIVER · CHARDONNAY
1976 was a defining year in Sir Ian Botham's cricketing career: he scored 1,000 runs in a season for the first time, made his maiden first-class century and was selected to play for England at just 20 years old, while also playing grade cricket for Melbourne Cricket Club. The Botham 76 Series Margaret River Chardonnay celebrates that remarkable year with a wine sourced from several sub-regions of Margaret River in Western Australia, bringing together the ripe, generous fruit of the region's centre with the fine acidity and perfumed character of the south. Fuller and more upfront in style, it combines delicate citrus blossom, honeysuckle and peach with crème caramel and vanilla on the nose, followed by honeydew, citrus, fig and nutmeal on a creamy, textured palate, with French oak adding richness and dimension. The cool 2019 vintage allowed the grapes to develop delicate flavours while retaining excellent natural acidity, resulting in a Chardonnay with freshness, balance and length.
A beautifully balanced Margaret River Chardonnay celebrating one of the defining years of Beefy's extraordinary cricket career.
