Tasting Notes:  Messi’s flagship wine has intense aromas of dark, ripe fruits including blackberries, cherries and ripe plums and enriched with notes of roast coffee and coconut thanks to influence of French and American oak. The aromas are reflected on the palate as this wine is bursting with blackberry, plum and black cherry is balanced and full bodied with silky tannins and lengthy finish. An award-winning wine highly appropriate for the player it represents!

Celebrating 50 Years of the Richmond Heavies

Richmond Rugby Club have joined forces with leading winemakers Schalk Burger & Sons to create a bespoke celebration blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Grown and bottled by former Springbok player Schalk Burger on behalf of Sporting Wine Club, this was the perfect choice to celebrate 50 years of The Heavies.

Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Merlot 50%

Tasting Notes: A beautiful deep red colour which leads into a very rich and robust Cabernet Sauvignon blended with a delicate and slightly fruitier Merlot. As both cultivars exhibit dark fruit flavours the combination amplifies blackcurrant, black cherry, cigar box, spices, and herbs with layers of raspberry, cassis and mocha. This is balanced with a good layer of tannins.

Food Pairing: Appetizers will be olives, cheese, mushrooms, roasted beef salad, ham and green figs, bacon-wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates. For the main course pair with steak, a 'Schalk' burger, grilled lamb, roasted chicken, braised pork, beef ribs, and meat pasta dishes.

Fitting for a 150 year old celebration this blend of Merlot, Mourvèdre and Syrah comprises two of the oldest cultivars, being Syrah and Mourvèdre. This combination of ripe black fruit flavours, peppery and spicy notes of savoury black olives coupled to the great blending qualities of the plummy and raspberry Merlot has created a wine that could be enjoyed now or cellared for 5 years. This wine was grown. made and bottled on the Welbedacht Wine Estate by Springbok rugby player

This wine is the ideal pairing for red meats, any game and venison, as well as spicy foods.

TASTING NOTES: Pale salmon in colour, this wine presents attractive aromas of plum and raspberry with a delicate hint of citrus zest. The palate is rounded and fruity, showcasing the brightness and liveliness of strawberry, raspberry, and plum. Beyond its delicious flavour, it offers a lovely mouthfeel and texture, with an appealing fleshiness. There is a light grip and good body from some lees influence, creating a pleasing harmony of fruit and acid vibrance. The finish reveals citrus notes and an attractive defined dryness.

White Peach, Jasmine, and Delicate

Tasting Notes: Elegant with lovely tension and structure. White peach and preserved lemon combine with roasted hazelnuts, jasmine, and delicate texture.

Food Pairing: This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with roast chicken, fine fish like turbot, and rich mushroom-based dishes.

Blend: 100% Torrontes

Tasting Notes: Wine with a beautiful, intense, yellow-greenish sparkly colour. In the nose, the typical Torrontes aromas arise with great intensity. Peach and delicate citrus notes can be perceived, surrounded by aromas recalling jasmine and roses. In the mouth, this young wine shows medium volume and a vibrant acidity.

Food Pairing: Pairs well with light coloured meats such as chicken, fish or even tofu. Also, it is known to go very well with Thai dishes.
